Configuration

Using the AiM Sports Race Studio 3 Software, you can configure your overlays in, virtually, an infinite variety of modes: add your logo and the track map, and choose the graphical objects you would like from a list of pre-determined sets with same layout or even single objects from different sets. The videos that you create will be, truly, "yours" in every detail, from the data to their visual layout.

Video Analysis

The video gathered from your entire session, once downloaded on your PC, can now be split - with a simple click - into individual videos of each lap: allowing you to watch, simultaneously, two laps side by side and check where you were faster or slower. The same operation can be performed with any SmartyCam HD 2.1 video recorded on the same track: allowing you to compare your best lap with your friend or rival's personal best!

Automatic Start/Stop Feature

So, you're on the starting grid, ready to get the perfect launch to turn one, your adrenaline is nearly at peak: the last thing on your mind is worrying whether or not the camera has been switched on. You have other things to worry about. AiM Sports was aware of this when they designed the SmartyCam HD 2.1; that is why it switches on/off automatically and starts/stops recording in the same manner, utilizing data received from your vehicles ECU.

The rumble of your vehicle's engine causes vibrations - this is no secret-but high-frequency vibrations are not a good thing when it comes to recording video. Never again will you experience that seasick "wave" or, as we like to say "Jell-o®" effect you get when watching videos recorded by a generic action camera. When your car cruises around the track and you pushing 7000 RPM, the AiM Sports SmartyCam HD 2.1 has been designed with a new "global" shutter for use in an environment where many vibrations are present.

The new Global Shutter CMOS sensor significantly improves image quality in low-light conditions while reducing the 'noise' to the minimum.

Proprietary Lenses Designed Specifically for Motorsports

The AiM Sports SmartyCam HD 2.1 is available with 2 different lenses that have been specifically designed for motorsports, meaning they are robust, able to work when the engine rolls 100 times per second, and have outstanding resolution and brightness. But above all, the lenses have been designed to reduce distortion, which is a typical problem of lenses used by generic action-cameras: objects placed at ten meters' distance look very far, making it impossible to accurately determine whether the track is straight or curved. SmartyCam HD 2.1 telecentric lenses six elements reduce distortions to the minimum and will withstand track vibrations for years.

Moreover, the lenses with different HFOV's allow a tailor-made framing in all kind of vehicles.

The narrow HFOV lens (67 degrees) is preferred for closed-roof cars, as it "sees" the track just within the windscreen pillars, reducing that unpleasant black frame typical of generic action camera's onboard videos.	The wide HFOV lens (84 degrees) is specified for open-roof, formula car, and kart use, where it is possible to have a more suitable view of the track and there is no risk of black frames.

Front Mount Full-Color TFT Display

The AiM Sports SmartyCam HD 2.1 cameras are to be installed inside the vehicle. This is why AiM Sports has placed the 128x128 pixel TFT full-color display for the SmartyCam HD 2.1 on the front, not on the reverse side - where generic action cameras place the viewfinder.

High-Quality Videos in Relatively Small Video Files

HD camera competition has focused on high pixel content; the result is that their video files are far too large, taking far too much memory. The AiM Sports SmartyCam HD 2.1 videos have the same quality as other HD action cameras but their files are smaller because of the H.264 compression system. This allows parameters to be optimized, being sure to provide the perfect balance between video quality and file size. The SmartyCam HD 2.1 allows you to choose between three video file quality levels: one-hour recording takes 4GB (high quality), 2GB (normal) or 1,5GB (low). Files are stored on SD cards: with current SD cards reaching 128GB capacity, you can record more than 30 hours of high-quality videos without changing the card.
